Checklist for your trip to China

✅ Install a VPN application like NordVPN before entering China. Apps like Whatsapp, Facebook, Instagram, Google Maps are blocked from use if you don't have a VPN app already installed, and so are the VPN apps themselves.

✅ Get the WeChat app and make an account. Some hotels will ask for this to be able to get into contact with you if they need. Also super helpful for booking attractions (your hotel can help with that if not) and using Chinese applications.

✅ Consider an eSIM card for internet use.

✅ Consider traveling by speed train, tickets can be bought at Trip.com or https://www.12306.cn/en/index.html

✅ Bring an adapter for a Type I socket which is the most common standard in China, you may also encounter Type A and Type C sockets, so it is best to have an adapter that can accommodate all three.

✅ There is no tipping culture in China.

✅ Always take your passport with you.
